Nintendo GameCube Setup Guide

Setting Up Your GameCube

To set up your Nintendo GameCube, you’ll need the official power adapter and AV cables (or a compatible third-party replacement). If your TV does not have AV inputs, you may need an AV-to-HDMI converter (sold separately).

For optimal retro gaming, a CRT television is preferred. CRTs offer no input lag and display graphics the way they were originally designed to appear.

Controller Setup

The GameCube supports up to four controllers. Connect each controller to the numbered ports on the front of the console. Most games use the first controller port by default.

Playing GameCube Games

GameCube games are sold separately and come on proprietary MiniDVD-sized discs. Insert the disc (logo side up) into the lid tray and close the lid. You can insert the disc before or after powering on the console. If the disc is inserted while the system is already on, it may require you to hit the “Reset” button or navigate the menu to start playback.

Memory Cards

To save game progress, a GameCube memory card (sold separately) must be inserted into one of the memory card slots above the controller ports. Some games require a memory card and will not function without one.

Important Notes

  • GameCube games are region-locked and will only play discs from the same region as your console (e.g., North American consoles can’t play Japanese or PAL discs).
  • Controllers and memory cards must be fully inserted to function properly. Make sure connections are secure before powering on the console.
